Plan Your Itinerary in Andamans


 

Andaman and Nicobar Islands are divided into three groups:

North and Middle Andamans – This comprises of Diglipur, MayaBunder and Rangat. As the name suggests, this is the northern most part of Andamans.

South Andaman – This constitutes Port Blair and Baratang. Though it is called South Andaman but practically, this is central Andaman. This also clubs the famous Havelock, Neil and HutBay Island.

Nicobar – This group includes Car Nicobar Island, Camorta Island, Non-Cowry Island, Campbell Bay Island and many other small neighbouring islands. This is the southern most part of Andamans.

How to Plan Your Trip

The best way to plan a trip in Andamans is to first travel from Port Blair towards North Andamans. See places in North and Middle Andamans and then cover South Andamans which is Port Blair, Havelock, Neil and Baratang.

First, here is a brief overview of places to be seen.

3 Days Visit 

If you are in Andamans on a 3 day visit, then I am sorry to say you are going to miss a lot! But dont worry, we will still give you the best options to explore. Here you go-

Day 1 – Explore Port Blair – Ross Island, Cellular Jail, Wandoor or Carbyn Cove Beach. You can spend the evening dining at one of the many amazing restaurants or have a stroll in the Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex.

Day 2 – Leave for Havelock – Visiting Radhanagar beach in Havelock is a must. So leave for Havelock on the morning of 2nd day and spend the day at Radhanagar Beach. There are many restaurants in Havelock that offer great food.

Day 3 – Come back to PB – Reach back to PB on third day and plan to visit the bird sanctuary and Chidiyatapu in the evening. Chidiyatapu gives you an awesome view of the sun set that you would die for to catch on your shutters.

5 Day Visit

Day 1 – Explore Port Blair – Ross Island, Cellular Jail, Wandoor or Carbyn Cove Beach. You can spend the evening dining at one of the many amazing restaurants or have a stroll in the Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex.

Day 2 – Leave for Havelock – Visiting Radhanagar beach in Havelock is a must. So leave for Havelock on the morning of 2nd day and spend the day at Radhanagar Beach. There are many restaurants in Havelock that offer great food.

Day 3 – Leave for Neil Island – It is a neighbouring island and is truly an exotic place. Revel in the nature’s glory in this pristine island and visit some beautiful places. Ah! Do not forget to snorkel in the Neil Island’s rich marine life.

Day 4 – Leave for Baratang – Baratang also offers many different places to visit. If you want to have a break from beaches and see some wonderful places then Baratang is the place to be.

Day 5 – Back to PB – Come back to PB – Reach back to PB on third day and plan to visit the bird sanctuary and Chidiyatapu in the evening. Chidiyatapu gives you an awesome view of the sun set that you would die for to catch on your shutters.

7 or more Days Visit

Day 1 – Explore Port Blair – Ross Island, Cellular Jail, Wandoor or Carbyn Cove Beach. You can spend the evening dining at one of the many amazing restaurants or have a stroll in the Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex.

Day 2 – Leave for Diglipur. It is the northernmost town of Andamans and has some of the best places to visit in whole of Andamans. You can see Ross and Smith Islands, Mud Volcano etc.

Day 3 – Stay in Diglipur and do some sight seeing

Day 4 – Start back from Diglipur to Rangat  – Rangat also boasts of some picturesque beaches. Long Island also falls in the area of Rangat. Lalaji Bay Beach of Rangat is quite attractive.

Day 5 – Start for Neil from Rangat – The boats from Rangat to Havelock are early in the morning at 6:15 am. By this boat, you would reach Neil by 9 am. Rest in Neil and visit Bharatpur Beach and you must go for snorkeling here.

Day 6 – Start for Havelock – Havelock is nearby. It takes around 2 hrs by ship and there are frequent ship services  that connect Havelock to Neil. Visit Radhanagar Beach in Havelock and you can also go for Scuba Diving.

Day 7 – Back to PB – Reach back to PB on third day and plan to visit the bird sanctuary and Chidiyatapu in the evening. Chidiyatapu gives you an awesome view of the sun set that you would die for to catch on your shutters.

NOTE: If you have some more days left, you may wish to explore Little Andaman or HutBay Island. It has a pristine waterfall amidst forests which is a treat for nature lovers. If not then you can spend those extra days by staying in Long Island or visiting Avis Island in MayaBunder.

NOTE: Traveling from Port Blair to Diglipur by road on a rented car can cost you anywhere between Rs. 10,000 – Rs. 15,000 and Seaplane fare for tourists is Rs. 10,500. So, an economic way to travel for many  is by sea. But then getting sea tickets, particularly in peak tourist season is extremely difficult so the best way to travel is to hire a cab and travel in a group so that you can divide the fare.

NOTE: While travelling from Port Blair to Diglipur by road, one has to cross the Jharwa Reserve Area wherein all the vehicles move in a convoy. The convoy timings are:

Also while traveling by road, one has to cross sea creeks twice via ferry service. Thus, plan accordingly keeping the time frame in mind. (The traveling times given in the picture above are as per the practical time taken to travel).

NOTE: Wherever you are planning to travel by sea, it is advisable to confirm your tickets before hand as arranging the ship tickets in peak season can be a troublesome job.

NOTE: Some people have sea sickness. They are advised to take light food (less spicy and less salty) food before traveling. Also, you get medicines to avoid sea sickness. You can carry them with you as a precaution.
